Engaging Hard-to-Reach Parents & Carers

 

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for:

  • New and existing staff in pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, faith schools, 6th forms, and colleges.

  • Staff in academies, free schools, independent and non-independent schools.

  • Any organisation with responsibility for supporting and engaging parents/carers, especially those who may be considered “hard to reach.”

Course Content:

This course supports staff who meet with, or address, parents/carers who can be difficult to engage with. It equips participants with the skills and understanding needed to break down barriers, manage challenges, and communicate effectively, even in difficult circumstances.

 

Topics include:

  • Defining the heading – what “hard to reach” really means.

  • Diversity – understanding different backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Barriers – recognising obstacles to engagement.

  • Meeting the challenges – strategies to overcome resistance.

  • Understanding feelings – empathy and emotional awareness.

  • Contributing factors – why some parents/carers disengage.

  • Knowing when to quit – recognising limits and next steps.

 

Duration:

  • Half-day course: 9:00am – 12:00pm.

 

Certification & Renewal:

  • Certificate of Attendance awarded at the end of the course.

  • Recommended refresher every 2 years.

  • From £350 per course.
