Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Training Course

 

Who Should Attend?

​

This course is suitable for:

  • New and existing staff in pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, faith schools, 6th forms, and colleges.

  • Staff in academies, free schools, independent and non-independent schools, and universities.

  • Any organisation with responsibility for identifying and responding to concerns about the safeguarding and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

Pre-requisite: Attendees should have a basic understanding of child protection (Levels 1–3) and familiarity with the latest edition of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance.

  • At your place of work.

  • At local training centres (where available).

  • Online -Via Zoom link provided. 

 

Course Content

Delivered with the differentiated learning styles of participants in mind, this course provides the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Key areas include:

  • Guidance and legislation – Keeping Children Safe in Education / DfE.

  • Aims and objectives – achieving best outcomes.

  • Understanding vulnerability – recognising abuse and significant harm.

  • Thresholds & barriers to effective safeguarding.

  • Sharing information appropriately.

  • Roles and responsibilities of all staff.

  • When to act – recognising triggers for intervention.

  • Record keeping – best practice.

  • The referrals pathway – ensuring the right action is taken.

  • Case studies and exercises to apply knowledge in practice.

 

Duration

  • Full-day course: 9:00am – 4:00pm.

  • Half-day course 9:00am - 1:00pm. 

  • Can be adjusted to suit client needs.

 

Certification & Renewal

  • Certificate of Attendance awarded to each participant.

  • Recommended renewal every 2 years.

  • From £550 half-day - £975 full-day  course.
